Sarasota County Public Hospital Board Names Richard Donegan to Seat 2
SARASOTA, FL -- The Sarasota County Public Hospital Board has appointed Richard O. Donegan to fill the board's vacant At-Large Seat 2.
Donegan is a retired executive of the General Electric Co., his 33-year career with the company culminating in his role as senior vice president of the Major Appliance Group, overseeing design, manufacturing, finance, marketing, sales and service for the multibillion dollar international division.
A resident of Sarasota since 1984, Donegan has served for nine years on the Board of Trustees of the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation Inc., most recently as secretary for the organization.
Donegan also has served on the boards of the New College Foundation, Mote Marine and Spanish Point, as well as the Canadian GE Appliance Co., Vendo Co., Upright Co., United Way, Bellarmine College, Federal Reserve - Louisville Branch and the Fresno State University Advisory Board.
A native of Wellesley, Massachusetts, Donegan received a bachelor's degree from Tufts University.
At its Monday, March 16 meeting, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System's governing board unanimously appointed Donegan to serve until the 2010 election. He will fill the seat vacated by the recent death of longtime Sarasota County Public Hospital Board member Phyllis Cobb.
"During my nine years on the Healthcare Foundation board, I've become keenly aware of the outstanding staff and accomplishments of Sarasota Memorial and the hospital's great value to our community," said Donegan. "I hope to contribute to the continued success of the organization."
