ADVANCE for Nurses Announces 2009 Best Nursing Teams
SMH Named Best in Recruitment & Retention
 ADVANCE for Nurses newsmagazine announced the Nurse Residency Unit at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System has been named Best in Recruitment and Retention for the state of Florida. The hospital earned the special designation as part of the magazine’s annual Best Nursing Team Contest.
ADVANCE presented the award to recognize the initiative of special nursing teams during National Nurses Week, May 6-12.
Sarasota Memorial’s Nurse Residency Unit is a medical/surgical care unit where some of the hospital’s most experienced nurses (preceptors) help train newly graduated nurses during their first year of employment at Sarasota Memorial.
“It’s been a win-win situation for our nurses and our patients,” said Jan Mauck, Chief Nursing Officer at Sarasota Memorial “Patients recovering on this special nursing floor benefit from having an extra nurse assigned to their care. And our new nurses have the support and guidance from a seasoned RN with years of experience as they learn the ropes of a new organization and apply their nursing skills within our established standards and practices.”
Sarasota Memorial’s nurses are featured in today’s issue ADVANCE for Nurses, a group of bi-weekly magazines that reaches RNs in Florida and 9 other regions in the United States. The nursing awards are also featured online at www.advanceweb.com/nurses under the Community tab.
